We LOVED our 6 day stay at El Albergue! We adore trains so we always sat in the dining area nearest the tracks to watch the trains to Machu Picchu loading and unloading. When it was our day to make the trip, we appreciated how convenient and easy it was to be right there at the train station. We found the occasional train horns at night added rather than detracted from our experience too (though I should say that our room #16 was the furthest from the tracks.) Visiting the organic farm, coffee roaster and distillery is a must, and the traditional Peruvian lunch cooked on buried hot rocks should not be missed. The location also makes for a pleasant walk to the ruins or into town on an old Inca trail through green fields. Caleb was great about communicating with us prior to our arrival and invaluable in arranging taxis and our tickets and guide Paul for Machu Picchu. Finally, I applaud El Albergue for it’s emphasis on environmental sustainability and green tourism. They are doing their part to eliminate the scourge of plastic. You won’t find any plastic water bottles, but you will find filtered water to fill your own reusable bottle for a minimal donation. We will be encouraging anyone we know who will be visiting Ollantaytambo to make their visit even more fun, comfortable and special by staying at El Albergue.

A very unique hotel located right in the Ollantaytambo train station with the entrance from the platform! This makes it easy to board the train to Machu Picchu regardless of time. It has charm of its own and the garden is beautiful and smells of fresh flowers. The rooms are very comfortable. There is a wonderful restaurant on site - cafe Mayu. It serves healthy, delicious, organic meals with ingredients sourced from their own farm next to the hotel. You can visit the farm as well and see the coffee roastery and distillery. Don’t miss out on buying some had selected coffee from the Andean regions. Simply put while there maybe a better place to stay in Ollantaytambo, the farm and cafe mayu along with its location at the station seals the deal.

I would recommend this property for a 3 night stay. It’s in a unique position, right on the station at Ollantaytambo where the train departs regularly for Machu Picchu. The hotel is quite unique with its own organic farm that supplies its restaurant that serves very good local food. The welcome was friendly with some thoughtful complimentary gifts in the room. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable, with views of the Andes from the upper level rooms that are spectacular: and the scent from the gardens are intoxicating. However, there are downsides. The noise from the constant trains (horns and whistles) through the night made it difficult to sleep and resorted to ear plugs and a pillow over my ears. The room was also really cold. A small electric heater was ineffective and I asked for another, which was kindly provided, but didn’t hear the room. In my hotel in Cusco, apart from radiators, hot water bottles are provided. If you’re after an experience and an easy Machu Picchu connection, this property is well worth considering.

Front is deceiving- on the train tracks at the station, but once you go inside the grounds & gardens are beautiful and the location is very convenient. Staff is very friendly and helpful & it’s clean and comfortable (not 5 star amenities, but great place to stay on your way to Machu pichu!!)

Great location and nice restaurant
We stayed for one night, it was great that we could just walk into the hotel after a long and exhausting day. Although it's located just right next to train station, you won't hear anything. We stored our luggage before we went to Machu Picchu so we could travel light. We stayed in a little farm house surrounded by the garden, the surrounds is lovely. But we didn't have much time to spend there. We also had dinner at the restaurant, the portion size is huge and tasty too.

The inner courtyard was beautiful at El Albergue and the gardens where they harvest their fresh foods was very nice. Being next to the train station was not a problem. A little noisey and they supplied earplugs. It is better to get rooms towards the back to avoid the train diesel smell. Not a huge problem but a little inconvenient. We booked on Orbitz and did not get to choose our room.

The rooms were very clean and cosy. We had an excellent nights sleep to prepare us for getting up early and catching the train to Machu picchu the following day. The train station is conveniently located in front of the hotel. The food is well prepared with a strong local flair and the home made ice cream and pies were delicious. Did an awesome job of getting all seven of us a delicious breakfast and checked out in plenty of time to catch the 6:30 train.
