4/10 Fair

Basically no kitchen facilities
The room was basic, but fine. The main disappointment was the kitchen. We specifically selected this property to be able to fix a quick dinner or make coffee in the morning. While there is a kitchen (in the basement, which was hard to find and no signs or instructions provided), there's absolutely no utensils to borrow, nothing; can't even boil water. There is one fridge in the kitchen, but it's (as a student told us) "for donations". The food left there one evening was no longer there in the morning. This is terrible.

Room for improvement , but good .
The place is old ( it’s a university dorm) and was very , very clean . However , my 14 year old daughter said she saw a small cockroach climbing down the wall . If we didn’t see that the ratings would be higher . I really wish I could give it a higher rating because it’s an excellent idea. Also they should increase the frequency of people inspecting for garbage at the entrance , and stairway area. Room for improvement , very do-able .

The building pictured is not the building that you stay in. The actual building is perhaps 400m away. The room was a basic dorm room without air conditioning but was more than adequate for our needs. Overall knowing this before our booking left us with appropriate expectations and happy.

"Evens" only in Pavilion Emile-Lemieux
This is the older of the residences: Even numbers facing the back of the building and odd numbers facing Desjardins building. The building is not air conditioned, so one would like to have the windows open at night -- except for the noise from rowdy shouting people on the benches and on the road that went on some nights until 2 am, and even then they had to be chased away by campus police. Insist on the 'even numbers' side, or another building entirely. Side note: There were 3 toilets and 6 showers for women on a floor with 75 rooms; needless to say, they weren't all that clean. Convenient location for transport. Not convenient for food. The cafeteria food was banal at best, and the pub was okay but not open for breakfast, leaving the only close option the cafeteria in the languages building, which was serving mass breakfasts to the many 'summery camp' kids, so the food was pretty banal and not well prepared. Good coffee. Skip the food lines and buy decent muffins and croissants right beside the cashier.

8/10 Very good

Basic but does the job
It was very busy upon checkin, with a fairly long wait in line. The staff were friendly. There are frequent buses to downtown from the campus which is good ($3.75 cash for a single ride - the drivers don’t give change), and I couldn’t get one of the RTC cards because the on-site shop was closed when trying twice. There is pretty much nothing in the vicinity of the halls for about a 20 minute walk in any direction - save for the pub on campus (which is closed Saturdays and Sundays!) There was a normal single bed and a camping style single bed in the room. I made the mistake of sleeping on the regular bed my first night - the mattress was incredibly hard, in fact I woke up quite sore. Tried the camping bed on nights 2 + 3 - much better. Overall, my stay was fine, basic, but did the job.
