Check in was really easy and the staff were very friendly. Location was ideal, right in the center of Berlin and an extremely reasonably price. Bath towel was provided on arrival which was also handy. I was only there to sleep for one night but the room was clean enough and quiet. I'd recommend if you're looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in a great location, for a short stay

Don't stay there unless you have no other choice.
I do travel a fair bit throughout the world and have stayed at a variety of places, so I do think I can fairly say that, I cannot recomend this place. The private bathroom was mouldy and I don't mean a bit of it. The bed was and blanket were ok but the pillow was pretty much not existing, it was so super thin with hard bubbles in it that I made my own pillow with some of my clothes. The walls were dirty with some stuff that was spilled on them and never cleaned. The floor sticky. I can only guess that the smell in the corridors is from the cleaning equipment. It was pretty bad. The only good thing is the location.

Great location in the City, however, the rooms are very basic.

Reception staff was rude.
The staff at reception area were super rude like very much. They reciprocated my politeness and thankfulness with rudeness. One guy from them shouted at me in front of my roommates. Even sometimes, when I came for breakfast, those reception area staff was giving me lectures with rudeness like do this and do that and so forth.

Ok and cheap hostel with great location
The hostel was ok for a couple of nights, the location is the best I would say. Staff is also helpful and friendly. The rooms are not the best; bathrooms were smelly and the shower was not good. I also found the layout of the 4-bed dormitory weird, as it's only one bunk bed and two single beds just besides each other, which is really awkward and not private at all if you are alone and with people you don't know in the room, as you are gonna sleep like if you are in a double bed with the person. If you are with family or friends, this might be good. I think it would be better if the shared rooms had only bunk beds, it gives you much more privacy. The price paid was really cheap though, so I'd say it's ok for few nights.

Great budget place to stay.
I chose a private twin room. Firstly it was smell that surprised me, like old, sweaty socks together with old parmesan cheese. Room was clean overall, only under the bed were dozens of dust and some kind of the can that I discovered nearly before leaving- maybe it was the source of the smell. Got a towel in reception together with key. But as I read other reviews before- took a towel from home, I suggest you to do the same. Room is equipped with an electric cattle- so instant meals are easily to make. Hostel is located in a walking distance from several metro stations, shopping mall, Brandenburg gate, Charlie checkpoint, Friedrichstraße station. Great place to use as a budget base for exploring the city. Considering to return :) P.S. you get what you pay for...

Adequate and good value
Excellent central location, noisy with groups of students but they seemed to settle down around 10pm. Staff mixed, cleaner left our room open 1st day so we put sign on door to not have them in again other days.

Very good value for money
Very convenient, echoes of DDR in this hostel. Clean, but need to BYO toiletries! Staff are polite and correct, german-style. Don't select if 5-star bling is a prerequisite. For very good value for money, you cannot go far wrong with City Hostel for Berlin!

Simple, clean, central, modestly-priced hostel
just before 2am I am almost 72 so I had a few doubts about the wisdom of staying here (as a former teacher I school parties, high-spirited, rowdy behaviour, but for its modest price in the very heart of Berlin, proximity to public transport, useful food shops, relative quiet though occasionally echoing spaces (hard surfaces) & a single but good-spirited attempt at singing, just before 2am, by a sole, late-night reveller, did manage, briefly, to disturb me. That is why I always take ear-plugs when staying in hotels and/ hostels! Breakfast, booked in advance (or as you want it) is copious and offers a wide choice though the menu does not change daily. The range of choices, for 6€ including hot & cold drinks and food, should make it possible to avoid culinary tedium. The friendliness of the staff was a major plus point for me and I have no hesitation in recommending the hostel as a very good value, simple and inexpensive place to stay in an increasingly expensive city (for Brits, at least, in the run-up to Brexit!). I have already booked my next stay of ten days, and doubtless more thereafter. Thanks to the company and staff - young, unstuffy, helpful and thoughtful.
