Amazing room and setting, very comfy and cosy. Only downside is there is no hot water so had to use kettle to boil water to wash
I suspect this is usually a wedding hotel, given the style. The most important thing to say is that I had a very comfortable stay. The bed was excellent - so important to have a good night's sleep. Room was exceedingly spacious and clean. Tea, coffee, biscuits in the room and added bonus of a microwave. The property is a little tired and in need of TLC but this did not impact my stay. I will book again. Very handy for the M1 and A52, just 15 mins from the centre of Nottingham. Due to COVID there was a grab and go breakfast which was rather good - fruit, cereals, pastries and milk carton, much better than a lot of places. I will book again.
It is a lovely old hotel if you like old historic properties, but they do come with old fixtures and fittings in keeping with the old. To be honest the first room I was given had no heating, radiator did not work, no bedside lamps and only one pillow! They did put me in a much better room, for which I was very happy. Now this was just before we were stopped by the Coivid-19 virus for travelling. I was attending a family funeral. The staff were lovely and the food very good.
Lovely room staff friendly Breakfast excellent All the hotel needs is outside grounds tidying and pavements sweeping
the location is ideal the hotel is a wonderful 1320s building bathroom could do with freshening up in keeping with the history of this fab place, breakfast was ace
Was A very comfortable Stay felt a little too intimate in dining was made to feel a little intimidated by other guests staff was lovely friendly . Didn’t know the history of risley hall but since staying I now understand the reputation it has for being haunted.
Could not get into first room/suite as key would not work. Neither tv worked in second suite, was told because of local works being done on internet. Then told it was simply TV's not working. Strange thing is that we stayed last spring and neither tv worked then either, because of a recent storm!!!! We believed it last time, came again although many things wrong with hotel and room, we believed "work in progress". A year later, not any better. No plug on one sink, curtains so old and faded I would not dream of using at home, no lock on toilet, internal toilet without working ventilation. Breakfast in a lovely room, but food not great, service even worse. For example, fried egg on toast "cooked to order", well the eggs were, but you had to do your own toast at buffet table. How do you know when to have toast ready for eggs, or do you wait for eggs, leaving them to get cold and hard, while making the toast to go under them? I later noticed hotel chain is on the market, maybe the reason for lack of investment and little service. But that still meant we got less than expected. The only good point was, I assume the duty manager who attempted to sort out the tv problem by bringing us another one. We had a couple of channels to go to bed to, but by the morning it too had decided not to work at all. We were given a small discount for our "understanding" but would rather pay in full for a hotel providing, at least, a reasonable experience.
What could be a beautiful building has been sadly neglected, presumably due to lack of funds. Breakfast was absolutely fine - no complaints. Cleaning has serious issues - sticky, stained radiators, dirt in floor corners in bathroom, large cobwebs on walls, ceiling and round furniture and radiators. Revolting quilt in cupboard full of stains and hairs. Didn't dare check the one on the bed but at least the linen looked clean.
Hotel tired needs refit . Very hard to find no out side sign , looks like the downstairs corridor as flooded. The best part of stay was breakfast, the eggs Benedict was fantastic. But would not stay again until update of hotel takes place
Lovely one night stay in hotel I know since conversion & first opening in the 1990s. Yes its needs some attention especially gardens & drives but everything first class & lovely breakfast.
