Unique stay in Soweto
Great unique hotel in heart of Soweto. A little rough around an edge or two, but a great, unforgettable stay.

Great way 2 experience Soweto's authentic heritage
Negatives: The in-room telephone was out of order and our safe's battery power was dead. Thankfully we were moved to a different room promptly. There is also a very frustrating voucher based Wi-Fi service that will pain anyone with an urgent deadline. Perhaps poor local bandwidth may be the problem. Positives far outweigh the negatives though. The food from the restaurant is incredibly tasty, even the most simple dishes such as steamed vegetables or an omelette leave you craving more. The staff are dedicated, enthusiastic and wonderfully welcoming. The restaurant is a renowned Jazz venue and on a weekend many of the hottest Jo'burg acts will thrill you. The decor and ambience of the restaurant adds further kudos to this setting. The hotel overlooks Freedom Square and lends itself to the area of Kliptown well. From the outside it blends into its historic surroundings while the inside immediately demonstrates four-star quality. Finally, I think it worth adding that an impressionable tourist may picture Soweto as an area of frenetic activity and dare I say 'too much of an adventure for them', however this will be a misconception. Whilst being very a vibrant place, Kliptown feels sparsely populated and is much quieter than a suburban western You feel safer walking around Kliptown than in Sandton. Furthermore you really find yourself having a lot of time and space to clear your head and admire the tide of history turning at your feet.
