Ribe lives up to legend - Dagmar hotel maybe not
Ribe is a sensational little town but unlike The Dagmar, does not live only off former glories.Today Dagmar’s chief asset is location: our room overlooked Ribe Cathedral and main square. But poorly planned, with little effort to adapt historic building to modern hotel use. Breakfast room gloomy rather than cosy. Would look for good B & you B another time. Ribe’s charming Kunst Museum is 5* for Danish “Golden Age” art, worth a Ribe visit on its own. Cathedral and that apart, it’s a great place to savour on foot, never far from water, plus good shopping too. Seelhund on river and Weis Stue on square nice for dinner, but over-large portions. Nearby coastal wetlands offer woldclass birding - and you can pick your own oysters.

Hotel Dagmar going downhill
The noise level has increased because of the outdoor patio. The breakfast room at the back of the hotel is a good idea. Many people complain about accessibility because the area around the hotel has been restricted to pedestrians. The hotel looks a little shabby -- I have stayed at the hotel before and it was well maintained and charming.

Cute historic hotel in middle of Ribe!
The historic hotel was very convenient to good food and shopping, and it was right across square from the Cathedral! Breakfast was ok, only cold foods, not hot foods. Unfortunately our room was clear across the hotel and could reach it by going upstairs and across a hallway and then down stairs....long ways from front desk. The room was also hot and the room next to street couldn’t leave window open...too hot to sleep. We also seemed to hit it when there were parties and loud music somewhere 2 of the 3 nights!! Ribe itself was a neat old town to visit!

Overrated. I like historic hotels, but being old is no excuse for being dirty and shabby and not caring about customers.
