Pleasantly surprised!
OK, some will contradict my rating so I'll freely admit a possible critique that can affect others: the noise from the downstairs night spots. We are not light sleepers and we have the white noise from the A/C and ceiling fan constant, do it didn't bother us. No points lost. We knew we would be centrally located and city life has its own hustle and bustle, so no points lost there either. This hotel is small-ish but big in customer care. Amber (evening manager) couldn't be more helpful and she made our road-to-room move as smooth as possible. This is an old renovated bank building and only one of three buildings in the district that maintained its dignity and survived the modern development craze. We loved the quilts hung throughout and the open spaces and hallways. A clean and delicious continental breakfast was provided in the lobby. The piped-in music added to the ambiance by making us imagine a little boy racing in the hallways on a tricycle ... ! Our stay was more than reasonably priced considering we were only across the street from restaurant row on the Riverwalk and walking distance from the expected tourist hotspots. The savings may be somehow off-set by the lack of parking at the hotel but there is a public garage 1/2 block away. Amber met us in front of the hotel and took our luggage to our room while we parked. No points were lost due to this because the garage was well lit, modern, and clean.

Overall Nice stay
Entrance was frustrating. The Manager couldn't get the call to request entry from her cell phone. The check-in and staff are on the 3rd floor, so I waited about 5 minutes outside before I could get in. Perhaps they can email you the access code for late arrival?

Nice place, quaint, n quiet.
Great suite, made me feel at home. Almost a BnB ! Only draw back is parking across the street.

Almost Didn't Share This Secret
Thrilled to find this spot for my first visit to San Antonio! I'm was tempted to keep it to myself, because it is a great "secret" to have, but the staff was so kind and accomodating that I owe it to them to rave about their hotel. It is located right smack in the heart of the city, about two short blocks from the Alamo and literally steps from Riverwalk access. There are dozens of restaurants and things to do and see within easy walking distance. I felt safe walking to the hotel alone late at night. The entrance is very discreet...almost hard to find, and is only accessible to hotel guests as there is no bar or restaurant. There is, however, an excellent continental breakfast included with the rate, served in a comfortable room with funky decor and leather couches. Homemade scones and biscuits and lots of fresh fruit made me happy, plus excellent coffee. The hotel is a historic mercantile building from the 1800s and has old wooden floors, very high ceilings, lots of character, but beautifully restored and maintained. The things that you want to be new are new and high quality- the bathrooms and linens! The staff was friendly and eager to please. The only slight negative was some street noise late at night, but that is the price to be paid for a central location in a party town. Ask for a room on the 3rd floor and at the back of the hotel and maybe bring ear plugs to soften that problem. Otherwise, very highly recommended !!!!
