Built in 1822, this is a one of a kind unit. There is not another original basement like this left in Savannah. All original brick walls and floors, exposed beams, brick oven and fireplace. The property was built by Isaiah Davenport for a rich cotton merchant? Eli Whitney, the inventor of the cotton gin, was once a tutor here for his daughter. Other guests such as the president of France also stayed here. Lots of history here. This particular unit would have been the original servants quarters.
There are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every room.
You have One of the two free parking spot located behind the house. The other parking spot is reserved.
There is a Completely Separate 3-story upstairs apartment above you. You will hear them walking around through the 200 year old heart pine floors.
The Only shared space is the brick patio behind the house
The house is located in the heart of the historic district.
It is a half block to Broughton St. and 2 blocks to River St. There are many great restaurants within walking distance. For fine dining we recommend Garabaldi's, Vic's on the River, 45 Bistro.
