Mixed feelings
After my stay at the Tamala I feel quite conflicted. I stayed earlier on in the year and had a great experience and this is why I booked it a second time. However, this time could be described as lacking lustre.
Overall the staff are lovely and really helpful but there were a few things during my stay which were disappointing. Firstly, I paid for a sea view room with private pool. When I arrived the water was green, you could see algae at the side of the pool. After watching the same debris for a couple of days I mentioned to the reception desk that the pool was not clean. The following day it started to get some attention, but it took some time for the water to become cleaner. I just didn't want to risk it, so did not have use of the pool for the duration of my stay.
The African BBQ was good and the Sunday buffet is fairly good value. You just need to arrive early, so you have access to a wider range of foods. The Fish market was not great although the concept is pretty cool. You are able to select fresh fish for the BBQ. What they fail to tell you is that you only get half of what you put in the basket and its disguised on your plate when they bring the food to you (I think...hoping you won't notice). The irony was that my partner and I (trying not to be greedy) selected a crab for us to share and we only ended up with half a crab between us. We complained and received what felt like a half hearted apology and solution.
