Very Good8,0
There is much to like about the JW Marriott in Polanco. Though the exterior of the hotel is showing its wear, the rooms are warm and very comfortable. Our sleep was the best we had in CDMX - very quiet and a great, big bed. The service was also very good, especially when things fell apart a bit our first morning. The entire hotel lost water through the morning, compromising lunch plans we had that day. The first call I made left me wanting, with the clerk at the front desk offering the nearby W Hotel as an option for washing up. When I called again for bottled water so we could at least brush our teeth (more on that below) the clerk I dealt with had clearly been more empowered to make amends, offering me a free night at the hotel and then the equivalent points on my Marriott Rewards account when he realized I’d already paid for my stay. The location of the hotel is a high point, with many options for eating, drinking, and culture all a short walk away. The terrace and pool, with a lovely view of the park, was also worth the reasonable rate we paid to stay there. The one thing that big chains don’t seem to get is that the little things offered are what counts and, conversely, charging extra for what is standard issue at so many other hotels always leaves a poor taste. Charging for WiFi is outdated and lame. Gouging people for a bottle of water ($7USD when the same bottle is $1 at the 7/11 across the street), ESPECIALLY in Mexico, is more than mildly an annoying.

Terrible Concierge Service
This is NOT a 5 star hotel. I got excited about the prospect of getting a great deal on a 5 star but I should have remembered the old saying, “not all that glitters is gold!” It is maybe 4 stars at best. The staff seemed super disorganized to me. Especially the concierge staff. Due to their fault there was a question about if I had paid a Museum ticket and a car service which I had given either cash for or my debit card. Carlos, a concierge accused me of not paying which was incredibly insulting. The customer is never right with him especially when you are a woman. I would never stay here again or recommend anyone I know to stay here. Totally left a bad taste in my mouth disrupting my Thanksgiving vacation.

Amazing Stay, Amazing Staff
We spent two nights at the JW Marriott and it was amazing! The staff helped us with everything and were super friendly. We ate at both restaurants in the hotel and they were both phenomenal and the hotel itself is a short walk from all the best of Chapultepec park including the Museum of Anthropology. I wish we could have stayed longer!
