Disappointing stay.
The welcome was good. Room very dark, narrow and dismal colours. Looked dated. Awful view from the windows and the drains in the bathroom were smelly. Breakfast was poor. Hunting around for everything, crowded, tea and coffee out of a machine, awful. No fruit salad or muesli and to top it all, nearly cold breakfast. Not what you expect from a four star hotel. I also had a fall from a dangerous step on the ground floor leading to the stairs which should have been fixed years ago. What a dreadful stay.

Great Hotel for Tourists in Edinburgh.
The staff was kind and helpful. The hotel is in nice condition. The bar was pretty good; we did not turn the restaurant. We liked our room. We did run into a problem with the room temperature and blankets. The room was kept at about 68°, until we asked them to raise the temperature to 72. The blankets were short and lightweight, which was difficult after spending a lot of time in the cold Edinburgh air. The shower was nice, but leaked a lot of water onto the bathroom floor. Overall, I recommend this hotel. It is close to many of the major tourist attractions in Edinburgh. You may want to call and have them raise the temperature in your room, and ask for extra blankets.

A nice comfortable stay
Nice friendly staff, quick check in. Very clean and comfortable room. Expensive breakfast at £14.99 so we didn't have breakfast at the hotel. Nice mulled wine and cookie at check in.

Poor breakfast!
Great stay however breakfast was a shambles. Queue for coffee machines + no mugs, no spoons for cereal, cooked breakfast took 30 minutes to be served from point of order and was undercooked. Not sure if kitchen was understaffed?

Disappointed!
Our room was above the resturaunt bar overlooking the st and was extremely noisy till 01.30. We had our dinner in the resturant and was very small choice and the service was extremely slow. Breakfast... don't ask for an omlette is was like rubber..overall very disappointed as we have stayed there various times before and it was excellent
