Very good 8,0
The hotel offers a shuttle to take guests into Oakland, which is great! Driving in Pittsburgh can be confusing and complicated and having the shuttle meant that people could easily get to the Medical Center or any of the Universities without driving or having to find parking. It is also walking distance to a lot of things. Ideally located.

Exceptional 10,0
Excellent lodging
Hotel property was very well kept. Staff were all courteous and helpful. We were given good advise as to who delivered food to our room. We only made it to breakfast one morning, and even that was close as we overslept. The lovely woman taking care of the breakfast area went well out if her way getting me yogurt (that had already been put away) and providing me with a plate of muffins and jam for my son who had not yet rolled out of bed! Business area was readily available even at 1a.m. and we were able to print our boarding passes. This was my first time in Pittsburgh, and we were not at all familiar with the area. Not really a complaint, but there was not really anything nearby that you could walk to.

Hampton Inn lacking some things, but trying hard
Hotel staff tried hard to make up for being short-staffed, short of certain breakfast items, and short on ambience. Parking was convenient, but I didn't notice that it was an extra daily charge ($15). Calling at night for wakeup call in the am meant a long wait as phone rang and rang before finally being answered. First day's breakfast: out of hard-boiled eggs, out of yogurt, out of cut-up fruit (but staff did try to make up for that as well). Rooms were adequate, but lighting in rooms was not. I've stayed at other Hampton Inns; this one seems tired and worn out.
