Our stay
We were at the Lucerne for a holiday visit with our family. I had stayed at the hotel 4 years ago, and my memories were fine. I would say that we were all a bit disappointed this visit. First, the good: the staff could not be better. Everyone who we had contact with was fabulous-helpful, warm, friendly (in a way that felt genuine, not just professional). The hotel is spotless and the location is terrific. Now, the not-so good: the rooms are drab and really tiny. Maybe I'm not a fan of browns, but even tiny rooms could look a little more inviting. Updating is needed. And I know that the hotel is dealing with long-standing elevator issues, but 1 working elevator for a full hotel is not manageable. We were on the 12th floor, and we decided walking was more efficient than waiting, but it would be an issue for many folks, especially the very young and very old. The staff did provide a freight elevator, which helped. Lastly, a $20. daily service charge "for the facilities", that is not mentioned in the room rate, seems stingy on principle, especially with the elevator not working (maybe one of the most important facilities). So, I would recommend the Lucerne with these reservations, It could be a wonderful, cozy hotel, but it needs some serious attention.

Lucerne Hotel is Great
All the staff was courteous and helpful. Cleanliness of the room was very good. Aside from our hairdryer not working appropriately upon arrival (it was replaced promptly) everything was great with our stay, including accommodations made by the elevator repairman during his work to help us get up and down to and from our room without heavy delay.

One of the best hotel experiences in New York City
This hotel is beautiful and has spacious rooms. The location near the subway entrance makes it easy to get around the city. The elevators were broken one afternoon, but the staff made sure we had access to the service elevator during the outage.

European Feel
The hotel was lovely with a European feeling to it. The rooms were well furnished. The bathroom was a bit small, but otherwise adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the uptown location and being close to Central Park. The subway access was super easy. The exterior of the hotel was under renovations so the outside was not visible. All in all, a great trip.
