    way below basic standards

    We booked 4 rooms for a Friday & Saturday stay. It looked like the room types were randomly allocated (bed type, window/less room) and some rooms didn't even have any furniture at all! an iron board doesn't count as furniture I suppose and they were not cheap rooms after all. Some didn't have soap at all or not even that shampoo / gel on the wall. The beds, pillows were comfortable and clean at least. The tiny electric heater was set to turn off during all day & night so basically freezing and only on for a couple of hours in snowy weather. Breakfast was overcrowded with one poor staff member to deal with a few hundreds of people, no clean fork or plate could be found, poorly washed, very basic buffet, non existent social distancing or covid buffet measures, in other words a hygiene hazard for even before covid times. Staff rather rude and inadequate, below 3 *, maybe 2* if you are flexible....

    Location, location, location

    The hotel used to be iconic due to its location beside the water of leithbut not any more. Behind that large container hides the water of leith. Tidy up and improve the outdoor space and make the most of your location.

    Shocking communication

    Check in was very slow with no social distancing what so ever, I booked bed and breakfast and no information about breakfast was given by the receptionist at the time of arrival with no information in the room either, so when we went for breakfast and to check out at 9.55 we were told breakfast was finished by a member of staff who was clearing the buffet away, after waiting in a queue at reception I was advised to observe a sign displayed behind the screens advising the times breakfast would be served which was obstructed by boxes of masks and Sanitation signage. I was told then that I was too late for breakfast and asked if I needed anything else. An absolutely ridiculous comment from a front of house representative. Enough said.

    Hotel over booked. We were turned away

    The hotel was over booked. We had a 2 night reservation but when we turned up at the hotel we were informed it was completely full and they would not be honouring our reservation We were turned away and had to sort out our own accommodation on a busy Friday night in Edinburgh

    Dissatisfied

    To say I paid nearly £400 for 2nights stay I have to say I was very dissatisfied and very disappointed by the condition in room and the hotel. I watched another customer tell the bar staff that their glass of wine was dirty for bar staff to say no it wasn’t then eventually give a clean glass with fresh wine however other glass of wine was given to another guest in the dirty glass. The room is run down and no luxury regarding hotel at all. We paid extra for breakfast however only attended 1 morning for breakfast I feel I was overcharged for a 3star hotel which would normally Cost 30/40 per night. I won’t recommend or be returning WAs very upset when I saw the hotel as wasn’t what it said.

    Do Not Book This Hotel

    First of all we arrive at 4pm for check in to find one reception staff arguing with a group of guests. We hot told to sit down but yet all rooms were ready for a coach party. A lady behind the bar started to check us in but the rude man behind reception told us to sit down again. Eventually we got checked into one room but then to be told the second room is not ready and no idea when it will be ready so 4 adults had to get changed in one room as our taxi was due at 5pm. We got told at reception the hotel has been very busy hence why rooms were not ready but yet check out is 10am. We arrived back at 9pm to get the second room which was ready. Our first room was disgusting and tv did not work so got moved to another room. Then at 10pm my daughter got a knock on her door saying could we go to reception as we had not paid for tge room. I went to reception to find out they had mixed the rooms up as i also had a room booked for my Dad the next day for one night. When my Dad arrived the toilet leaked all over the floor and smelled damp but they did not seem bothered when i reported this. Breakfast well that is another story, so disorganised with no glasses out, no bread and tables not ready. Then on Saturday night the bar ran out of gas so no draught beer. I did not see any management during our stay as the place is so disorganised and run down. I will definitely not be booking this hotel again and very rarely complain.
