The room was nice enough though a little cold and we could get the heating up any higher, the service in the pub was very slow particularly in the morning we went down for breakfast at half 10, breakfast closed at 11 and was ask to take a seat so someone could take our order. 20 minutes later we finally got told they could not take anymore orders as the kitchen was overwhelmed, they really need to hire more staff to better handle guests

Friday and Saturday night pleasant break.
Service for pub dinner and breakfasts excellent particularly from Shaun. Meals were very good value, particularly breakfast. Hotel block is separate from pub so no noise. We were allocated family room which was spacious, well appointed and clean. Would have been better to have a flexible hose shower head instead of just a rain shower, ladies don’t always want to wet their hair! Mattresses were first class comparable to best hotels. Only downside is 20 minute walk into Whitby and 35 minutes back up very steep hill. Never saw a bus in two round trips. Looks difficult to park in Whitby thus we walked. Definitely recommended for short stay.

Family trip
My sister and I were visiting the area and we found the twin room at Penny Hedge was very comfortable. A walk downhill to Whitby, harder to walk back but it only cost £6 for a taxi. Clean, helpful staff and good food. Would stay again
