The room was amazing, but they are under construction on the beach and I feel prices should reflect that. Also the food isn't good.

Just visit the beach & restaurant. Don’t stay!

I’ve been putting off this review cause while the property is beyond beautiful and the food good, it was also very frustrating in many ways! First getting any kind of confirmation from the front desk or manager about our date change took over a month and well over 100 phone calls. Once arriving we immediately noticed the bungalows are not sealed to the critters outside. We then noticed the dead spider in between the pillows and the bamboo headboard was covered in webs. The bed also didn’t have a mosquito net which is odd since the bungalows aren’t sealed. However we arrived late so we swapped the pillows to the foot end of the bed and took our chances. Terrible idea because the hotel had loud construction going on until midnight, I have video proof. Finally fell asleep to wake up to bug bites all over our faces and bodies. Yes we wore tons of bug spray. While the bathroom outside seems like a fun idea, the bungalow doors do not hold close unless locking them with the key. So if anyone is with you they must listen to you unlocking and locking the door on your way in and out of the bungalow or have the door wide open for even more critters to come in that might not be able to fit in between the permanent two inch door gap. They do offer free parking but for some reason it’s shared with anyone that wants to just go to the beach so if you try and find a spot between 10am and 6, good luck! We didn’t stay the second night, ate the cost and booked at the Maya Tulum resort.

Stayed at Ikal for a night and definitely coming back! After being in Tulum so many times and staying in different hotels in town, I can assure you this is one of the most unique Tulum hotel experiences you can potentially get. Rooms are carved out of trees, you have your own garden. There is still AC in the room (which rarely happens in Tulum). Staying and hanging out in the room is an experience itself but it's also a very eventful and social hotel. There is always live music, people are super friendly, there is a community feeling. Luckily in my short stay, there was a cacao ceremony I had the chance to join which was amazing! As much as I had nothing to complain about, the hotel may not be for everyone. Rooms are built in a very unique and organic way which means part of your room is in a garden, it's an open-air experience rather than a traditional room feeling. My shower was in the garden for example. If you prefer to have a regular hotel room, you may want to ask for the details of your room before you book.

    Construction, mostly unpleasant staff, loud!!!!

First off the GPS pin is incorrect so it took us like an hour and a half to find it as it’s super hard to find and no one knew where it was. We were treated hostile when we first arrived parked and then all the tackled and not even allowed to go to check-in. We were ushered off to the restaurant where the manager came and spoke to us about an event that was going on. We couldn’t check in but we could use the restaurant till 830 and then we had to go back to our room we asked to be able to leave and they wouldn’t let us just cancel the reservation and go somewhere else for the night. After we were ushered back to our room the music from the event was so loud and it kept playing over and over that we couldn’t even be in the room so we tried to go down to the beach even though it was raining and they almost didn’t let us do that we couldn’t go to the pool and when we finally were allowed to go back to the room there was still partying going on till 5:30 in the morning!!! Never knew where the lobby was to go and complain I tried contacting them in the middle of the night did no good. The manager had said she take care of us in the morning but she wasn’t around no one was friendly the next morning or even cared about the fact that we didn’t get to bed until after 530 and then the chainsaw started up at dawn. Yes it is a magical place but it was such a horrible experience that I cannot leave a good review, the room wasn’t even clean because I found another chicks underwear.

    Jungle experience.

This hotel is to have the experience to live in the jungle and forget about the commodities of your home. Its a great experience. But if you are not ready to leave behind those comodities this is not thenplace for you, because you will get biten by mosquitos or spiders. Also, the wifi is average. The hotel staff its not that very attentive when you get there. Its really hard to find the place, there is no signs or anything, you will have to ask around. When you get there, nobody offers help to take your luggae so be ready to carry your luggae a few stairs up, and simce its only sand, good luck pulling your luggage. One more thing, the pictures rhey have on-line are old, the hotel needs a lot of repairs to look the way it shows when you are booking. Also, i got the mayan suite plinge pool, and on the photo's it shows a different room, so ask before you book, either way, the room was pretty amazing. It was a great experience to stay at a jungle hotel, but it comes with its pros and cons. So, do your research. Also, i believe its over prize for what you get. But will definitely would stay there again.

Exceeded my expectations been going to Tulum for years and I don’t know how I missed Ikal, I want to stay here from no on! It’s paradise!!! Exactly what you need to escape the city. The section of the beach where Ikal is located is so private and beautiful, the rooms are perfectly designed around nature and not the other way around.. simply gorgeous! Can’t wait to be back!
