    Jiguang Street in Taichung City was called "Sakae Town" during the Japanese occupation period. Its location close to the railway station, where there are many people coming and going, means that it has long been one of Taichung's busiest streets. Jiguang Street has developed into an important shopping area near Taichung Railway Station, and the local government has pedestrianised it to encourage people to shop here. Jiguang Street shopping area covers Jiguang Street, Luchuan West Street and Taiwan Boulevard. It feels spacious and is comfortable to stroll around. Jiguang Street shopping area offers a wide range of products in its gourmet restaurants, souvenir shops and Taichung speciality shops. If you're looking to buy electronics products, such as motherboards, computer parts and audio equipment, head for Jiguang Electronic Street.     Ching Mei Shopping Area

    Located adjacent to Gongyi Road and Calligraphy Greenway in the West District of Taichung City, Ching Mei is an arts & culture district, at the heart of which lies the shopping centre Park Lane by CMP. The shopping centre was reconstructed by architects from a disused car park. The outer wall of the building has become a green vertical planting wall with around 120,000 green plants. The green wall is not only beautiful to look at, but also provides energy-saving and cooling functions, making the entire building a new green landmark in Taichung. Inside you'll find a bustling shopping centre, while outside there's a comfortable green shopping area with wooden walkways and shady green trees. You can enjoy the abundant sunshine during the day and feel the romantic atmosphere at night when all the lights come on. Many Taichung locals like to come here for an evening stroll.

Ziyou Road is just a few steps from the exit of Taichung Railway Station. As the birthplace of Taichung's suncake, you'll find numerous suncake shops here, each offering products made to their own unique recipe. Try them all before choosing your favourite. You'll also find shoe shops, fashion boutiques and tea shops in this area.

    Xinshe District Shopping Area

    Xinshe District is surrounded by mountains and is affectionately known as Taichung's back garden, producing shiitake mushrooms, ponkans and loquats. One of its best-known scenic spots is the Xinshe Sea of Flowers, which attracts thousands of tourists when the flowers are in full bloom. To attract more tourists, the local government of Xinshe District decided to give the Xinshe District shopping area an image overhaul by integrating the shops with local cultural attractions. Xinshe District has colour-coded tourist routes inspired by a metro map, including "Pink Line: Spring Peach Blossom", "Yellow Line: Flowers", "Green Line: Ecology Slow Living", "Brown Line: Mushroom", "Red Line: Cultural and Historical", "Purple Line: Romanctic" and "Blue Line: Sky Night View". Shiitake mushroom is one of the must-buy specialities of Xinshe. To create a clear visual identity, local shiitake mushroom shops use coffee brown as their symbolic colour, so that tourists can recognise them more easily.

    Fengyuan Miao Dong Shopping Area

    The huge crowds attending events hosted by the Ciji Temple, a Taoist faith centre in Fengyuan District, Taichung City, drew in nearby vendors, and the area gradually developed into a night market. Shopping areas near the temple also developed rapidly, including Zhongzheng Road, Fuxing Road, Xinyi Street and Bo'ai Street. All of these areas are now collectively known as the Fengyuan Miao Dong shopping area. You can get pretty much anything in the Fengyuan Miao Dong shopping area. Near the temple is a traditional market where you can buy a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and local farm produce. On the way to Fengyuan Railway Station you'll find shops selling groceries, clothing, beauty products and footwear. After nightfall, you can sample the local delicacies at Miao Dong Night Market. With so much choice, a day of shopping will certainly be a day well spent.

    Wuri Beer Market
