Tel Aviv Hotels

Jam packed with every type of cosmopolitan scene you could ever fancy – happening nightclubs, pavement cafés, intriguing architecture and thriving cultural hubs, Tel Aviv’s a lively, bustling, thrumming city. With a year-round beach scene that’s a way of life for the city’s young residents, families and pensioners, the sizzling Mediterranean shores are the perfect place to top up your tan among the beach carnival atmosphere, just remember to leave time to discover the cool boutiques and bustling markets, too.

Things to see

Like its bold, straight-to-the-point nature, much of Tel Aviv’s buildings are unfussy, with straight lines, gleaming glass and clean white-washed walls. The 3 sky-high structures of the Azrieli Center are a prominent landmark. Head to the top for 360-degree views over Tel Aviv and the tempting Mediterranean. Come back down to earth with a trip to Tel Aviv Museum of Art – itself an impressively bold modernist-style structure – home to a fine collection of surrealist, impressionist and contemporary artwork, including pieces by Chagall, Kandinsky and Klimt. Once all that culture gets too much, tread like a local and hit the beach, whether it be volleyball-fuelled family fun-filled Gordon Beach, or the surfer’s hotspot of south Hilton Beach. Once you’ve had your fill of sun and sea, seek out a local café for a plate of deliciously creamy labneh, a soft cheese made from yoghurt, or humus with a freshly-baked pitta.

Hotels in Tel Aviv

From state of the art modern hotels offering round-the-clock service and stylish interiors to off-beat hippie guesthouses brimming with laid-back charm, Tel Aviv hotels cater for everyone. Families will enjoy the array of well-known contemporary hotels, offering all mod-cons, including WiFi and in-room dining. Plenty of hotels are within a few minutes’ walk of one of Tel Aviv’s infamous beaches, perfect for hitting the Mediterranean shore for some serious fun in the sun. For something more eclectic, try a boutique guesthouse in a restored old building where you’ll discover stylish antiques, cool art pieces and luxury linens.

Where to stay

Many visitors head for the swathe of accommodation along Hayarkon Street, or near to Tel Aviv’s sweeping stretches of golden sand. If you fancy more culture than beach, try the Yemenite Quarter’s narrow alleys and little houses, close to Carmel Market – a fun-filled sprawling affair of colourful stalls. Nearby Neveh Tzedek’s a stylish upmarket area close to the beach brimming with restored old buildings housing bistros, boutiques and galleries – cosmopolitan Tel Aviv at its best, while south of the city, Jaffa – with its quirky flea market and sleepy wooden fishing boat-filled port – offers a calm alternative to Tel Aviv’s hustle.

How to get to Tel Aviv

Major international airlines fly in to Ben Gurion International Airport, about 15 kilometres from Tel Aviv. To get from the airport to the city, jump on a train or take a taxi. Car hire is also available at the airport – as well as in central Tel Aviv – but this isn’t really needed unless you plan to explore further afield. Once in the city, it’s really easy to uncover the area you’re staying in on foot, and grab a taxi to other districts. An affordable and inexpensive bus network also covers the city. Sightseeing tours are available from travel agents.
