Cannes Hotels

Dress to impress in designer clothing boutiques, sparkle with newly-bought jewelry in its endless high-priced stores, or sip a cocktail on a hotel rooftop terrace while you admire the view of the marina at night, the exclusive city of Cannes is a millionaire’s playground where oceanfront hotels have their own red carpets, and celebrities are dime a dozen. Soak up the atmosphere of unapologetic wealth from morning to night, as the city transforms throughout the day from a picturesque beach destination to a sparkling late night entertainment venue. Cannes is elaborate, self-indulgent, and over the top, and a jewel in the crown of the French Riviera.

Things to see

Lying to the east of Cannes center, Juan-les-Pins Beach is one district that’s been happy to ditch its European elegance in favor of a heavily commercialised, contemporary vibe. In stark contrast to the decadence of the main French Riviera, Juan-les-Pins is modeled on the ostentatious art-deco appearance of flashy Miami Beach. Its streets reverberate with music from late-night venues, and the sheer volume of gaudy tourist concessions threatens to sink the beach. It’s also the best place to find actual sand along this stretch of coastline, making it a haven for sun worshipers and swimmers. The affluence that Cannes is famous for is best seen along the 2 kilometer stretch of La Croisettes, the famous palm tree-lined seafront boulevard where the paparazzi descend every year to snap the rich and famous at the Cannes Film Festival. Every showy building along this route is a fine-dining restaurant, glitzy designer boutique, or exclusive hotel, but the superior views of the bay make their hefty price tags worth paying. For thrills and spills, Antibes Land boasts a wild collection of thrill rides, fairground games, and water slides. It’s fun during the day, and better at night, when the neon bulbs flash on every ride and the fairground organ cranks out its raucous tunes.

Hotels in Cannes

If you choose a luxury hotel in Cannes you can expect complete sophistication, elegant decor, and any manner of extravagant extras, from private beaches to rooftop Jacuzzi tubs. After all, this is everything this showy French city is famous for. Mid-range hotels are plentiful, and can be found dotted along the scenic promenade or further inland enjoying the tranquil landscape and views of the glistening Mediterranean Sea. There’s plenty of choice for a budget-friendly holiday in this city of excess, and if your wallet doesn’t stretch to 5 star luxury, there are comfortable hotels with swimming pools, great views, modern kitchenettes, and WiFi offering an excellent base in this dramatic coastal town.

Where to stay

The heart of Cannes, the place where the action really heats up, is at La Croisettes. Each exclusive hotel and restaurant along this stretch, with their imposing presence on the promenade, overlooks the Palais des Festivals where the famous film awards are held, as well as the small flotilla of expensive yachts bobbing peacefully in the bay. Juan-les-Pins, closer to Antibes, is a hedonistic art deco shopping area, with glamorous malls, chintzy tourist shops, and beachfront cafés, while the more relaxed town center has fewer high priced shops, more ethnic restaurants, discount hotels and attractive pedestrian shopping precincts.

How to get to Cannes

Most international travelers make their way to Cannes via the Cote d’Azur International Airport to the north east. Onward travel to Cannes is easiest by rail, or by a 30 minute drive by road. Since most hotels in Cannes are within walking district of its main sights, there’s no real reason to rely on public transport, and unless you’re planning to explore more of the French Riviera’s craggy coastline, you won’t need a car either.
