Victoria Falls Hotels
Victoria Falls is a laid-back sun-washed town set on the banks of the Zambezi River on Zimbabwe’s northern border. But this chilled-out town - surrounded by lush jungle and tranquil nature reserves - is most well-known for its namesake, the nearby Victoria Falls themselves. This mighty waterfall is a natural wonder, where pure-white explosions of river-water plummet down into the peaceful, tree-shaded gorges below.
Things to see
There’s so much for nature-lovers to see and do in and around Victoria Falls that it’s difficult to know where to begin. But why not start your bright and sunny Zimbabwe morning by booking an elephant-back safari tour from the town. Hop on to the backs of these silver-grey gentle giants and relax as you’re lead on an easy-going safari tour through brush and jungle. After, head over to the Victoria Falls Bridge, an immense steel construction that arches over the second gorge, and enjoy unbeatable views of the cascading falls. For adventurous adrenaline-seekers, there are even bungee-jumping opportunities from this 128 metre-high bridge. If extreme outdoor activities are your bag, try a white-water rafting trip afterwards. Of course, there are other, more relaxed ways to get up close to the Zambezi River and the enchanting falls. You can take a boat tour, go kayaking in the Victoria Falls National Park, or even splurge on a helicopter tour.
Hotels in Victoria Falls
There’s a range of hotels in Victoria Falls suited to a variety of tastes. If you’re travelling on a tight budget but still want to experience this natural marvel, stay in one of the cheap 2-star hotels in Victoria Falls, which offer stripped-back rustic rooms complete with free WiFi. For something slightly fancier, stay in a stylish 3-star hotel and enjoy refined in-house restaurants, bar lounges, and free fresh breakfasts. There’s a handful of stellar 4-star hotels in Victoria Falls too, for those after lavish luxury. Splash in the refreshing outdoor pools, and lounge on the sunny private balconies.
Where to stay
Victoria Falls is a small town, so wherever you stay within the centre you’ll be nearby the Falls and all the exciting outdoor activities that it has to offer. If you’re after utter convenience, however, stay at the easternmost point of the centre, where you’ll be closest to the falls and to the Victoria Falls Railway station. On the other hand, staying at the northernmost point of the town puts you within quick access of the Zambezi River Cruise Terminal. Meanwhile, in the centre, shoppers and foodies will love the artisan boutiques and cool cafes at the Elephant's Walk Shopping Village.
How to get to Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls Airport is a small and stress-free hub of aviation based just 20 kilometres south of the town, and serves regular year-round flights to and from Johannesburg, in South Africa. Johannesburg Airport is a huge centre of international aviation, serving destinations from around the globe - like London, Paris, and New York. The connecting flight from here to Victoria Falls Airport takes a mere 1 hour 45 minutes. From the airport, take a cab or a pre-arranged hotel shuttle bus. Once there, it’s easy and pleasant to get around on foot, but there are plenty of cabs too.
