Sheffield has given the world bands and musicians like the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Joe Cocker, Human League, and Def Leppard. So it's no surprise to discover a vibrant live music and club scene in the city. You'll also find theatres hosting musical drama, comedy, and cabaret. For a night at the movies, the city also has a choice of multi-screen cinemas. Sheffield's vast Motorpoint Arena hosts epic rock events.

Most club nights and parties kick off around 11:00 PM. Some venues, like The Plug, stay open as late as 06:00 AM at weekends.

Musicals, comedy, and cabaret

 

Looking for an evening of light entertainment? You'll find it at venues like the old-world Lyceum Theatre, which hosts shows from London's West End as well as contemporary dance and operetta. Those who prefer a night at a more intimate venue can seek out pubs like The Lescar, where there's live music and comedy performers.

The Lescar

 

For lovers of old school pubs that serve a real ales and hearty food, The Lescar is a find. It hosts comedy nights and live jazz, and claims to have the only beer garden in Sheffield.

Stadium rock

 

Visiting musicians ranging from the Beach Boys and Bon Jovi to Lady Gaga and local rockers Pulp and Def Leppard lure capacity audiences to Sheffield Motorpoint Arena. With space for 13,600 people, this gleaming metal stadium is the city's biggest indoor venue for rock concerts, live TV shows, and sporting events.

Music bars

 

If you're visiting Sheffield on a budget, you'll find a sprinkling of city centre bars like Mentholmans at West Street Live that offer live music and DJs but don't charge you to enter. You'll find drinks at music bars like The Harley are cheaper than in most big clubs, too.
