Pubs, Clubs, and Comedy - Nightlife and Entertainment in Chester

Find a place to stay

On the one hand, Chester's pub and club scene is a vibrant backdrop for the hectic social lives of sharp-dressed young locals. You'll see them out and about in the town's buzzing bars on a Friday night. But there's another side to Chester - where you can sip a quiet pint of ale in a centuries-old timber-frame pub down a cobbled lane, or beside the River Dee.

Chester's historic public houses

Chester's oldest drinking dens are classic English pubs, loyally serving local customers since the days of King Henry VIII. Some have even kept their original wooden beams and other Tudor period design features. You can ask the friendly staff to recommend a good local beer and soak up a warm and chatty atmosphere that's been brewing for centuries.

Bear and Billet

You can stroll across the Old Dee Bridge to this cozy pub inside Chester's oldest timber-framed building, a former tollgate erected in 1664. On winter evenings the log fire blazes away; for summer nights, there's a walled beer garden.
